First Week in Nicaragua

This is what I saw in the first week.

This is me and my sister at the airport in Miami Florida.

We rode in the back of trucks.

This is my garden.

There are parrots and rabbits here.

At an art store we can feed the rabbits carrots. The rabbits ate half the bag of carrots.

This is the view from a volcano named Mombacho.

There is an iguana on the rock in my back alley.

This is what the stop sign says and what the streets look like in Granada Nicaragua.
This is a mandarin orange that my dad found growing on a tree.  I ate the mandarin orange with my dad. It tasted like an orange but a little different.

This is the playground.

This is me and my sister playing at the playground.
People are celebrating a religious holiday. There was lots of music playing and parades and loud noises that were bombs going off! They weren't real bombs, just celebration bombs!

I'll send you another link next week. Please send me an update of what's going on at school.

  1. Dear Oliver and Saraya, It was cool looking at your pictures. Today our class and Tr. Susie's class are hosting Gathering. I feel bad for you that you have to miss it. We are doing Japanese plays. I am playing: the mother in, "Mr. Lucky Straw," the princess in, "Little One Inch," and the mean old woman in, "The Old Man Who Made Trees Blossom." I miss you. And so does Zander. We are having a big party on June 13th and I wish you will be able to come! When me and Liliana were at the pool we were all standing in a line and she asked me where is your dad, and he was standing right next to her! I thought that was funny. I cannot wait to see you this summer! Love, Anika

  2. Hi Oliver and Saraya,

I tried posting the other day, but it doesn't seem to have worked. I'll try it again!

Thanks so much for sharing these pictures! I'm glad to see you and Saraya both. I'm a bit jealous that you get to feed rabbits. I love watching rabbits munch on carrots. I think their teeth and noses move in a really cute way. I am a little scared of parrots though. The view from the volcano is amazing! Did you climb to the top? Is it an active, dormant, or extinct volcano?

What is your house like? What do you like the most that is different from home? What do you miss the most about home? What kinds of shops are nearby? Are the kids your age in school now? Do they have a summer break too?

It's been a busy week here at LFS. The first and second graders worked all week on their plays that they shared at Gathering. Each class chose three Japanese folk tales to turn into plays. We also went to Shofuso, the Japanese house and garden in Fairmount Park on Wednesday. The second graders also hosted their last pretzel sale yesterday. Your class went on their canoe trip yesterday! They told me they had a great time. Did you see the pictures? The 6th graders went on a bike trip on Wednesday and then went to Washington D.C. on Thursday. Finally, Pre-K and K hosted their book celebration today. Everyone went to the Meeting House to read and listen to their books.

I'm so excited you have this blog. I can't wait to see more news from Nicaragua. Tell everyone in your family that I said "hello!"

  3. Hi Oliver and Saraya,

My last post didn't seem to work, so I'll try again!

    I love your blog!!!!

What was different about the taste of the orange? Do you think that the color had anything to do with your perception that it didn't taste the same? Once a student in my class did an experiment to prove that color changes your perception of taste.

We just got back from the annual 5/6 camping trip. We had a great time at PEEC. It rained the first day --but that just meant that we had fewer bugs to contend with.

Could you keep your eyes and ears open to any young people involved in the Pulsera Project? I'd love to have a Pulsera sale at LFS next year!

Can't wait for your next post.

    Many smiles,

    T. Deb
